Dhaka University’s Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall Provost Prof Mizanur Rahman, also former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), on Friday announced to resign from his position in the face of students’ protest.
Witnesses said that after Jummah Prayer professor Mizan’s son allegedly ‘misbehaved and verbally abused’ a residential student of the dormitory which flared protests among the students of the hall.
The agitators mostly Chhatra League leaders and activists of the hall also confined Mizanur Rahman and his son for two hours and shouted for his resignation.
Witness said that the president and general secretary of Chhatra League of Dhaka university chapter also present at the time.
Later professor Mizan announced his resignation alleging that he was dishonoured by Chhatra League activists who are candidates of the upcoming hall students’ council election.
Professor Mizan also said that he submitted his resignation paper to the university’s Vice-Chancellor professor Akhtaruzzaman. However, Professor Akhtaruzzaman said that he did not receive any resignation letter.
University proctor Golam Rabbani said he was concerned about the unpleasant incident at Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, however, the dispute was over later but he did not know anything about the resignation letter.
