At least 450 alleged drug peddlers have so far been killed after the nationwide anti-drug crackdown was launched in May last year.
As many as 102 yaba traders including 29 godfathers have also surrendered to law enforcers.
During the period a total of 16000 drug suspects have been arrested in the anti-narcotics operations.
At least sixty suspected drug peddlers have been killed in reported encounters with law enforcers in the Khulna division alone since the government launched a war on drugs.
Each of the other division of the county has witnessed almost the same deaths of drug peddlers in reported encounters with police.
According to sources,
there are 1,151 people on the general list of the Home Ministry while 73 are on the list of the 'godfathers'. From these two lists, 102 Yaba traders have surrendered.
Of them, 39 are godfathers. The yaba tablets enter Bangladesh through Teknaf border of Cox's Bazar before they are distributed through peddlers all over the country.
Most of the drug 'mafias', however, have remained untouched. Law enforces source said many of the listed drug dealers fled the country.
Sixteen relatives of former MP Abdur Rahman Bodi were among those who surrendered after much media hype. Four of them were said to be Bodi's brothers.
They have been in police custody since January 15 last.
Bodi's four brothers Abdul Shukkur, Abdul Amin, Md Md Shafiq and Md Faisal, his cousin Kamrul Hasan Russell, nephew Shahedur Rahman Nipum, stepbrothers Abdul Amin and Faisal and in-law Shahed Kamal among the godfathers surrendered to the police.
Other prominent accused are Teknaf Upazila Parishad Chairman Dinar Mia, Hrilar Union Parishad members Nurul Huda and Jamal Hossain, Teknaf Municipality Councilor Nurul Bashar Nurshad, women Councilor Kahinur Begum's husband Shah Alam, Teknaf Sadar UP member Enamul Haque, Upazila BNP General Secretary's two brothers Ziaur Rahman and Abdur Rahman.
And despite the ruthless operations that drew criticism by rights groups, yaba smuggling is yet come to a halt.
According to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), only 10 per cent of total drugs are generally recovered in any country.
By that estimate, 400 million yaba pills worth TK 60 billion are sold each year in the country. Law enforcers claim pills of around TK 100 billion are sold each year in local markets.
Such a huge turnout remains an incentive for smuggling yaba despite the 'zero tolerance' policy by the law enforcers, said several officials of RAB and police.
Yaba trade has turned out to be another normal business for many in Cox's Bazar.
Law enforcing agencies, including police, RAB, and BGB, started a nationwide anti-drug crackdown in May. Of them, police achievement was better than any others forces
According to law enforcing agencies data, around 1.6 lakh drug addicts and drug traders have been arrested across the country by this time. A total of 1.1 lakh cases have been filed against them, sourcee said.
Several law enforcement officials admitted that despite the drives, yaba tablets are being smuggled in through Naf River and sea routes. The narcotics are spreading from Teknaf throughout the country.
Law enforcement agencies have been reporting death of 'drug dealers' in 'crossfire' almost every day since the nationwide drive against drugs began in May following a directive by the Prime Minister.
