FBCCI urges Uzbekistan businesses to invest in BD

Uzbekistan is highly interested to boost the existing bilateral trade relations with Bangladesh and it put special emphasis on imports of Bangladesh's Textile and Pharmaceutical sector.
In response Bangladesh side urged Uzbekistan to invest in Bangladesh in different sector utilizing special incentives, including special economic zones, offered by the government for foreign investment
Speaking at a meeting with the leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI),  Uzbekistan Ambassador for  Bangladesh Farhod Arziev sought specific proposals from the FBCCI leaders to develop the bilateral business relation.
"The existing trade might be diversified by active steps of business community of both the countries," the Ambassador, based in  New Delhi, told the FBCCI leaders, at the FBCCI on Saturday.
FBCCI President Md. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, Senior Vice President Sheikh F Fahim and Vice President Md. Muntakim Ashraf took part in the discussion.
The Ambassador was accompanied by Azamjon Mansurov, First Secretary of the Uzbekistan Embassy.
The FBCCI President, at the meeting mentioned about the role of private sector in the fast-growing development activities of the country.
FBCCI along with its member bodies working with the Government to ensure a conducive business environment in the country, he added.
In spite of huge potential the bilateral trade with Uzbekistan is untapped, Mohiuddin mentioned. To develop the bilateral trade, FBCCI Chief emphasized on exchange of delegation consisting the businesspersons of both the countries.
He also mentioned about the 100 Special Economic Zones established by Bangladesh Government to attract foreign investment.
The Uzbekistan Ambassador Mr. Farhod Arziev expressed keen interest about Bangladesh's Textile and Pharmaceutical sector. He sought specific proposals from the FBCCI leaders to develop the bilateral business relation.
The Ambassador also invited the FBCCI leaders to visit Uzbekistan at a close suitable time.
Sheikh F Fahim,Senior Vice President of FBCCI mentioned that an FBCCI delegation may visit Uzbekistan to find out the potentials of Bangladeshi products to export to the CIS countries. Sheikh Fahim also emphasized on technology transfer to Bangladesh from Uzbekistan.
FBCCI Directors Mrs. Hasina Newaaz, Mir Nizam Uddin Ahmed and  Tabarakul Tosaddek Hossain Khan Tito and FBCCI Acting Secretary General Hussain Jamil also joined the discussion.
It may be mentioned that, Bangladesh exported goods worth $11.50 million to Uzbekistan and imported merchandise worth $16.10 million from the landlocked central Asian country in 2017-18.
