76th birth anniv of Rashed Khan Menon today

The 76th birth anniversary of veteran politician Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon will be celebrated on Sunday.
Marking the day, leaders and workers of different political parties, social organisations and professional bodies, cultural personalities, journalists will exchange greetings with him on the premises of Workers Party Office at Topkhana Road here, said a press release.
On May 18 in 1943, Menon was born in Baherchar Khudrakathi village under Babuganj upazila in Barishal district.
He served as the vice-president of prestigious Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) in 1963-64 term and later became president of the then East Pakistan Chhatra Union in 1964-67 term.
He played an important role in all democratic movements of the country including 1969 mass-upsurge and the 1971 Liberation War.    -BSS
