PBI submits charge sheet today seeking death for 16

The investigating agency, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), has drawn up charges against 16 people including Feni madrasa Principal Sirajuddoula over the murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi, without mentioning any allegation against ex-OC Moazzem Hossain of Sonagazi Model Police Station and SP of Feni SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar.
The 16 charge sheeted people include local Awami League leader Ruhul Amin, were involved in the killing of Nusrat.
Briefing journalists at the PBI Headquarters in Dhanmondi, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Banaj Kumar Majumder said during their long investigation, they found the involvement of 16 people in the arson attack on the madrasa girl that led to her death.
The PBI chief on Tuesday said they will press charges against them in court today (Wednesday).
Of them, 12 gave confessional statements before the court, he said, adding that they sought the highest punishment for the accused.
The PBI chief said a total of 92 people have been made witnesses in the case and seven of them have already testified before the court.
The other accused to be charge-sheeted are Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Nuruddin, Imran Hossain Mamun, Hafez Abdul Quader, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Councillor Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Kamrunnahar Moni, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Javed, Umme Sultana Popy, Mohiuddin Shakil, Mohammad Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Absaruddin.
On April 6, Nusrat was set on fire at an examination centre allegedly by people loyal to the principal of her madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as she had accused him of sexually harassing her in Sonagazi Upazila of Feni district.
Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa's ex-principal Sirajuddoula, who reportedly sexually harassed her, has been made prime accused in the charge sheet.
Death sentence has been sought in the final charge sheet for the 16 accused for taking part in the killing of Nusrat and aiding and abetting the killers, he said.
After fighting for her life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on April 10.
Sonagazi Upazila Awami League President and head of madrasa governing body Ruhul Amin, Sonagazi Municipality Councillor Maksud Alam have been involved in illegal financial dealings to execute the Nusrat murder, according to the charge sheet.
Local source told the Daily Observer that Moazzem Hossain, ex-officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Model Police Station and SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar,  ex-superintendent of police in Feni also have closed reation with Ruhul Amin, Sonagazi Municipality Councillor Maksud Alam.
The punishment was Moazzem Hossain only suspended and Jahangir has been sent to the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.
Nusrat had been tricked onto the roof of the madrasa where the perpetrators set her on fire on April 6 for not withdrawing the sexual assault case against the principal.
On April 6, she was set afire at an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Sirajuddoula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.
