Bangladesh finished World Cup preparation all but jam-packed success bar the warm-up defeat against India. Tigers entering the World Cup accompanying the 'golden touch' but have some rooms to improve and areas to be wary.
They tented in Ireland and received Irish hospitality for a triangular series accompanying West Indies and became unbeaten champion; followed by the camped in Leicestershire for a short tenure before reaching Cardiff for the warm-up clashes. The main challenge for them was to equip with the English summer and they adapted nicely.
The spot to roar for Tigers spreading their chest is the form of fresh bloods. Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das and Mohammad Mithun put opponent bowlers to the sword as and when being included. Besides, Mohammad Saifuddin and Mehidy Miraz outshone with the ball. Mosaddek's 52 off 27 balls slayer in the tri-nation final flamed the debate regarding the best shot at number seven since Sabbir Rahman's stalwart yet to display in his post-ban cricket inclusion.
The West Indian great Courtney Walsh, the Tigers' pace bowling coach, must notice the deficit efficacy of his pupils. Bangladesh bowlers were well below their best in the warm-up match of Tuesday. India piled up 359 proving Bangladesh bowling attack ordinary! Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan's scalps were expensive and all the deliveries were well-readable by batters.
A very crucial problem for Bangladesh is the man at three. Team management prefer Shakib, so does himself. But many cricket whizzes including Aminul Islam Bulbul, Tigers World Cup captain in 1999, advocated Shakib to play at the middle as he is the nucleus of Bangladesh team. If Bangladesh lost Shakib too early, it must affect the rest in the batting order. So, Liton Das can be sent at three before Shakib and in place of Mohammad Mithun.
Bangladesh lost the warm-up with lot of lessons to be learnt. Still they need to work on late-order batting that caught at straw against India. To boost-up Tigers arsenal, Confident cricket from Mahmudullah, Sabbir and Mosaddek is a crying need for Bangladesh. In addition to them, Saifuddin, Miraz and Mashrafe deem to have a mighty downorder but they need to click in need.
Another puzzle in setting Tigers playing eleven is whether they will go with four quicks and one spin combination or three pace and two spin amalgamation. For the first option, they need to drop Mehidy Miraz, who had been very miser in conceding run during Ireland tires to scope in Rubel. Rubel on the other hand, is the proven breakthrough bowler and the fastest among current troop.
The hamstring injury of skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza just before the battle for the World's cricketing supremacy is of course, an ominous sign for Tigers. The spearhead batsman Tamim Iqbal also fighting with fitness and Mahmudullah Riyadh couldn't round his arms till the last preparatory game. Shakib has also been struggling with fitness issues for the last one and a half year, who missed the final of the Ireland tri-series and remained spectator of the historic win. Thus, despite having no lethal injury in Tigers tent, the think tank and medical team need to sweat over to keep Mashrafe and Co. fit.
