Bangladesh lose to Australia despite highest ODI total

Heroic batting of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah after career best bowling spell from Soumya Sarkar were futile as Bangladesh were 48 runs short of Australian run-pile on Thursday at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in Nottinghamshire.
Australia choose to bat first winning the toss making three presumed changes to spot in Nathan Coulter-Nile, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa while Injury forced Bangladesh to alter the winning combination. They need to drop handy Saifuddin and valuable Mosaddek for injury and hence speed star Rubel Hossain and pinch hitter Sabbir Rahman were taken in.
Batsmen proved Aaron Finch's decision right as dominant batting of David Warner and Usman Khawaja along with the skipper Finch conferred Aussies a gigantic 381 assets from 49 over costing five wickets. However, the rest of the story is full of hectic fight back of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad. The in-laws duo had a brilliant 127-run joint venture at the fifth wicket stand to flame up the dimmed winning hope of Tigers. Mahmudullah's departure in the 46th over put the final pin on the board of Bangladesh dream. He amassed 69 from 50 deliveries.
Mushfiqur Rahim got his maiden World Cup ton and remained unbeaten scoring 102 off 97 balls but they failed to berth the team to the winning post as Tigers were able to post 333 for eight from stipulated 50 overs to concede a 48-run defeat. This is the highest ODI total of Bangladesh. Their previous highest ODI total was 330 that they accumulated against South Africa in their World Cup opener on June 2.

Bangladesh will take of Afghanistan in their seventh World Cup clash on June 24 at the Hampshire Bowl Ground in Southampton.
