RU students protest sexual harassment

The students of Rajshahi University (RU) on Monday staged demonstration on the campus over the alleged sexual harassment of their two fellows.

Students of Institute of Educational and Research department organized the programmme at the foot of Shabash Bangladesh at noon.

Last week, two students of the department filed separate complaints of sexual harassment with RU authorities against assistant professor Bishnu Kumar Adhikary.
 
Atifa Haque Shefa, a third year student of the department, said, a teacher is accused of sexual harassment, we don’t want to let hide the matter.

“We are protesting so that the authorities submit the report within a short time and do a fair investigation,” she added. 
 
On June 25, 27 two students filed a written complaint against Vishnu Kumar for sexually harassment. On July 2 the teacher was exempted from all the academic activities.

Prof Laila Arjuman Banu, students’ advisor, said, “The institution has formed a three-member inquiry committee. They will submit report to the university administration.”
