A court in Rajshahi on Sunday convicted a man and sentenced him to death in a case filed over killing his brother-in-law in 2017.
The condemned convict Rony Ahmed, 29, is a resident of Pashchimpara area in the city.
Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Anup Kumar handed down the verdict in his absence. The court also fined him Tk 10,000.
However, the court acqutted his father Habibir Rahman, 50, another accused in the case, as the charge brought against him couldn’t be proved.
Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution Rony Ahmed got in an altercation with his brother-in-Law Biplob Hossain as sequel to a previous enmity. At one stage of the scuffle, Rony stabbed him indiscriminately and fled away on March 3, 2017. Biplob succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
