Indian Border Security Force (BSF) fired gunshots on a group of farmers along Char Khanpur border in paba upazila of Rajshahi on Monday morning, leaving 10 injured by bullets.

Meanwhile, BGB Rajshahi-1 battalion commander Lt Col Ferdous Ziauddin Mahmud said three farmers were reportedly injured in BSF firing.

But, villagers gave the identities of the injured farmers as Rubel, 25, Dalal, 40, Sujon, 23, Rumon, 23, Sohel, 28, Dulal, 35, Robiul, 32, Zuto, 40, Suruj, 19,  and Sumon, 30, who are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the city. They all are the residents of Khanpur village in Paba upazila.

The victims alleged that the BSF members, on board a truck, came to the spot and started firing at them when they were working in their paddy field around 11.00 am, leaving 10 injured.

BGB official Ziauddin Mahmud also said that the BSF informed the BGB that 3/4 persons entered into Indian land crossing the border while cutting grass.

As the BSF fired rubber bullets, the farmers fled the scene, he added.

After sometime, the villagers in a group tried to attack the BSF men that led to the Indian border guards to fire gunshots for 'self defence', he said quoting a BSF source.

The BGB protested the incident.
