Tonu’s rape, murder still a mystery to IO

The investigation into the rape and murder of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of Cumilla Victoria College, has made no headway in solving the mystery behind the murder in the last three years and four months.
Investigation officer of the murder case recently said they were trying to match DNA samples with suspects in the last six months.
Meanwhile, officials involved in the investigation remained tight lipped about the DNA sampling. Theater activist Tonu was killed after being raped inside Cumilla Cantonment on this day in 2016. No one has been arrested yet.
Family members and locals
expressed their anger and frustration as the killers are yet to be identified, let alone arresting anyone.
Expressing frustration over the lack of initiatives by the investigation agency, the family has cast doubts of getting justice as Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stopped communicating with the family and responding to their phone calls two year ago. "It seems the murder is deliberately being covered-up," said Tonu's mother Anwara Begum.
Her murder sparked a huge public outcry and people from home and abroad demanded justice for the college girl.
In May of 2016, CID told media that semen of three men were found in DNA test but the officials concerned denied making any comment over further development.
Tonu's mother Anwara Begum said, "My daughter was killed when she went to Sergeant Zahid's house for tuition. So, Zahid and his wife should be interrogated over the murder." "I hope I will see the trial of my daughter's murder before my death," she further said.
Meanwhile, the Investigation Officer of the case senior police superintendent of CID told the Daily Observer, "We're working to identify the killers of Tonu," he said.
Two autopsies at the Cumilla Medical College could not determine the cause of her death though Yaar Hossain, who first spotted the body in a bush, saw that the back of his daughter's head was smashed and there were injury marks on her nose.
The police inquest report did not cite any sign of injury. The report said most of her long hair was cut and her mouth and eyes were closed.
There was a minor cut and blood spots on the upper part of her left ear. There were bruises on the left side of her face and right knee as well. Tonu's kameez was tom, the report says, without specifying the area.
The investigators claimed to have interrogated more than 200 people, including some army men, but to no avail.
