Intelligence agencies have prepared a list of commission takers from some 60 casinos of Dhaka where Tk 120 crore was transacted every night. Some leaders of Jubo League, the youth front of the ruling Awami League, were found to be running the gambling business, which they started in 2015 from the Victoria Sporting Club. Law enforcers are still in the dark as to how much black money flowed into the 60 casinos in the last 4 years. The National Board of Revenue is also in the dark about the matter, sources said. The country woke up after 4 years to an underworld operation through one single crackdown by the law enforcers on Wednesday. A high official of the Intelligence agency told the Daily Observer on Friday that people who took commission from the casino business were under surveillances. Former ministers, influential political leaders including that of the ruling party, Jubo League members and some members of the law enforcement agency are in the list, according to the Intelligence sources. Law enforcement agency sources said the team has already started to prepare the list of masterminds of casino business to arrest them after verification of the list and the collected information. Though no specific names have been given to the investigation team the operation is underway. The Rapid Action Battalion or RAB has arrested contractor GK Shamim, seven of his bodyguards and seized about Tk 20 million in cash, Tk 1.75 billion worth of savings, foreign alcohol and firearms. The elite force-- under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs-- were continuing their operation. The trained women who were hired from four countries-Nepal, India, Thailand and China---to run casinos must have also flown in with the permission of relevant government authorities. Law enforcement agencies reported that over 60 illegal casinos were operating in Dhaka city. Law enforcing agencies have launched a massive crackdown on illegal casinos and bars in Dhaka city as well as in other cities and towns in the country. Awami League General Secretary, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader on Friday said, "No matter where irregularities and grafts are found in the country drives will be conducted there." It's not only about Jubo League and Chhatra League, those who will be found involved in corruption in the Awami League, will face the same fate," he said. Action will be taken if it is found that the casino business was being operated with support from any political leader or anyone from the administration as no godfather will be spared, said Quader. Asked whether AL is embarrassed over the allegations raised against its associate bodies, he said, "We're happy as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has become more popular with the action she has taken as it has brightened the image of the party and the government."
