Khaled’s den of criminal activities

Jubo League leader Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan used Habibullah Bahar University College in the capital as a fort from where he ran his criminal activities.
Intelligence agencies identified several close associates of Khaled who acted as his armed cadre on instructions from him. These armed men used to use the college campus for drug abuse and other criminal activities.
Khaled Mahmud is now in police custody in connection with cases under Arms Act and Narcotic Control Act.   
His real estate development firm undertook the construction work of the high rise Habibullah Bahar University College building in shady circumstances in 2013.
Khaled Mahmud along with hundreds of armed followers would enter the college campus in the evenings to flex muscle. Since the then Bangladesh Chhatra League college committee led by Emon and Jitu  vehemently opposed Khaled and refused to accept his illegal demand of letting him interfere in the administrative works of the college also.
Khaled managed to get the college BCL committee dissolved.
SM Bahalul Majnun Chunnu, former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League is the president of Habibullah Bahar University     College governing committee. His tenure ends on September 30 this year. Chunnu, was the BCL general secretary when Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was its president from 1977-1981.
Khaled Mahmud used his arms and money power to have Chunnu removed from the post of the president of the college governing body. He persuaded the National University to make Workers Party lawmaker Rashed Khan Menon the president of the governing body.
A senior official of the investigation agency told this correspondent on Wednesday that during interrogation, Khaled confessed that Habibullah Bahar University College campus was his crime den.
Earlier, RAB raided Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan's Eastern Kamalapur office and recovered two electronic machines which were used for torturing his hostages.
SM Bahalul Majnun Chunnu told the Daily Observer on Wednesday that Habibullah Bahar University College was turned into multi-storied complex during his tenure from a two-story building. Now it has several faculties with several thousands of students.
