Police on Friday arrested the husband of college girl Liza Rahman who had committed suicide by setting herself on fire in Rajshahi.
Shah Makhdum Police Station officer-in-charge said a team of police arrested Sakhawat Hossain,19, from his sister’s house at Laxminarayanpur village in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj at about 3.00am.
Liza’s father Alam Mia filed a case with the police station on Wednesday night against Sakhawat, his father Mahbubul Alam Khokon and mother Naznin Begum, the OC added.
The OC said police began their operation to nab the accused after filing of the case.
On September 28, Liza, a second year student of Government Women’s College in Rajshahi, set herself on fire in front of the police station after a dispute with her husband.
She was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and, later, shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where she died on Wednesday.
