Elderly man 'killed' by neighbour

An elderly man was killed allegedly by his neighbour in Purthia upazila of Rajshahi district over land dispute.

Deceased Abdus Salam, 70, was a resident of Bhallukgachi village in the upazila.

Local said Abdus Salam had been at loggerheads with his neighbour Sumon over a piece of land.

Following the dispute, they locked into an altercation on Thursday morning. At one stage of the altercation, Sumon hit on Salam's head with a bamboo stick, leaving him critically injured.

Salam was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where he died at about 5:00 pm while undergoing treatment.

Puthia Police Station officer in-charge Rezaul Islam said legal actions will be taken if police receive a written complaint.
