5 hurt in AL factional clash

Five people were injured in a clash between the supporters of Awami League and Bangabandhu Sainik League in Chandrima Police Station area of Rajshahi city on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the Boalia thana unit AL organizing secretary Raja had been at loggerhead with the city Sainik League general secretary Sujon Ali over railway tender.

As a sequel, they locked into an altercation in front of Bangladesh Railway West Zone Head Quarter in the afternoon. At one stage, both groups equipped with lethal weapons swooped on each other, leaving five people from both sides injured.

Of the injured, three were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Chandrima Police Station officer in-charge Sheikh Golam Mostafa said being informed, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Legal actions will be taken in this incident, the  OC added.
