Rajshahi growers expect bumper Aman yield this season

RAJSHAHI, Nov 7: The farmers in nine upazilas here are expecting bumper production of Aman as the cultivation target exceeded this season.
Now, the farmers are passing busy times in harvesting the Aman paddy. They are expecting to get at least 20 maunds of the paddy from per bigha land.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Rajshahi, a total of 75,330 hectares of land have been brought under Aman cultivation across the nine upazilas this year, but the target was 70,224 ha.
Meanwhile, the farmers exceeded the target and brought more 5,106 ha of land under the cultivation which is 10,000 ha more than the previous year. Now they are busy in harvesting the paddy, the sources added.
While talking to The Daily Observer, the farmers said, they planted the Aman seedlings timely in their fields, while the tender plants grew well giving a positive sign of a bumper output.
Mobarak Ali, a grower of Nuriakhetro village under Mohonpur upazila said, "I cultivated Aman on four bighas of my land this season. I hope to get 20 to 22 maunds of the paddy from per bigha this season."
Nurul Amin, another farmer at Beelnepalpara village under Paba upazila said, "I cultivated Aman on three bighas of land this year. Now I am passing very busy times in harvesting the paddy. This year there was adequate rainfall. I am expecting a bumper production this year."
In this connection, Rajshahi DAE Officer Debu Dali said, "Due to favourable weather, the farmers here got more interested in Aman cultivation and brought more lands than the previous year. They have crossed the cultivation target this year. I hope that the farmers will get 20 to 22 maunds of Aman paddy from per bigha of land this season."
