
Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali has taken charge as the 14th Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Coast Guard, the maritime law enforcement force under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Lt Commander Munif Taki, Media Officer at Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters, confirmed the matter in a media statement on Wednesday.
Earlier, an order was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on January 14 appointing him as the new chief of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Mir Ershad Ali was commissioned in the executive branch of the Navy on July 1 in 1989, the statement said.
Prior to this appointment, he served as Chairman of Mongla Port Authority and before that Commander of Bangladesh Navy Fleet. He also served as Director of Naval Intelligence (DNI) at the Naval Headquarters.
