Bangladeshs security forces along the Myanmar border remain alert while a total of 106 members of Myanmars Border Guard Police (BGP) have so far entered in the country.

The BGP members entered Bangladesh with arms. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has disarmed them and kept them in its custody. BGB revealed this information at a press release on Monday.
According to sources, Bangladesh has provided shelter to 1.1 million Rohingyas by housing them in 34 camps at Coxs Bazar. Rohingya asylum policy is undoubtedly one of the most significant humanitarian efforts in recent history.

Meanwhile, BGP members entered Bangladesh with arms. Bangladesh border is insecure, according to sources.

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said on January 27 that Bangladeshs security forces along the Myanmar border remain alert amid growing tensions in the neighbouring country. He said tension was prevailing in Myanmar with brief pauses and Bangladesh forces have remained alert from much earlier.

During the tense period of the military crackdown, the country saw a massive influx of Rohingyas fleeing from Myanmar.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated "We have the ability to feed 160 million people of Bangladesh and we have enough food security to feed the 700,000 refugees." The local residents, groups, and non-government organizations (NGOs) of Bangladesh provided emergency food, shelter, and other assistance to the new arrivals.

Amid the ongoing fight between military and insurgent groups, a total of 106 members of Myanmars Border Guard Police (BGP) have so far entered in Bangladesh. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has disarmed them and kept them in its custody.

Nearly 400 people of Chakma community are waiting to infiltrate the Ghumdhum border point in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban as fierce fighting has been in Rakhine state of Myanmar between the Myanmar army and insurgents of the Arakan Army, for the last few days.

Besides them, some Rohingyas are also gathering in the area. Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) in Coxs Bazar Mohammed Mizanur Rahman said.

He said a food crisis has appeared in the border areas due to the fighting between the junta force and the rebel Arakan Army. They are in a critical situation. That is why they are trying to enter Bangladesh.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have beefed up patrolling and security along the border so that no more Rohingya or people from any other community could enter Bangladesh crossing the border, he added.

Meanwhile, the Myanmar force has been dropping bombs from helicopters targeting the position of Arakan Army members from 10:00 am Monday. On the other hand, so far 106 members of Myanmar Border Guards (BGP) have fled the country and taken shelter in Bangladesh to save their lives from the Arakan Army. Currently they are in custody of Bangladeshs BGB.

Currently, the number of registered Rohingya population living in 33 camps in Ukhia and Teknaf upazila of Coxs Bazar is 1.25 million. Of them, 800,000 from Rakhine state crossed the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in several months since August 25, 2017. Bangladesh could not send back a single Rohingya in the last six years.

Bangladesh shares a 283-kilometer long border with Myanmar, which mostly falls in Bandarban and Coxs Bazar districts.  Some insurgent groups including the Arakan Army have intensified fighting for the last several weeks. The rebel groups have launched a unified attack on Myanmars troops. Insurgent groups have already taken over some border towns.

The clashes between insurgent groups including the Arakan Army and the military in Myanmar have intensified recently. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told journalists on Sunday that the BGP members entered here for their safety. This could happen.

"Don you remember, we entered India during the liberation war? Not one, but millions of people went there.

They entered here to defend themselves, not for war," he said, adding that they will be sent back to their country.
