Abul Kalam Azad, a member of parliament (MP) from Cumilla-4 (Debidwar) constituency, demanded to splitting the Cumilla district into two administrative districts -- Cumilla (North) and Cumilla (South) -- to make citizen services more accessible.

In his speech at the 12th session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday (February 13), Azad raised this demand.

He said that my constituency is situated on one side Dhaka-Chittagong highway and on the other side Cumilla-Sylhet highway.

Debidwar upazila sadar is located on the connecting road of the two highways at a distance of 14.5 km from Chandina bus stand on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The Devidwar to Chandina main road is extremely busy and narrow, causing great difficulty in traffic.

Therefore, he demanded that the Devidwar-Chandina road should be appropriately improved and widened.

He said Bangabandhus daughter has already given her kind consent to convert Cumilla into a new division. Its implementation is now only a matter of time.
