Restaurant catches fire on Bailey Road, 10 hurt

A fire broke out at a branch of Kachchi Bhai restaurant on the first floor of a six-storey commercial building on Baily Road in the capital on Thursday night.


On information, 12 fire engines went to the spot around 9:50 pm and started rescue operation, said Ershad Hossain, duty officer of control room at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.


They have rescued at least 15 people so far from the building, he said.


Meanwhile, 10 people were injured after they jumped out of the building and, later, they were brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of the hospital police outpost.


However, some people were seen crying for help from the sixth floor and the roof after begin trapped inside it. The rescue operation is going on.

The cause behind the fire is yet to be known, the fire official added.
