SCBA polls end peacefully Results today

A two-day voting for electing a new leadership of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) ended on Thursday peacefully, court sources said.

A total of 5,319 voters out of 7,883 cast their vote to elect the 14-member executive committee of the SCBA, Adv Abul Khayer, election subcommittee convener, disclosed after closing of the voting on Thursday afternoon.
 
A total of 3,261 voters cast their ballots on the first day of the two-day elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for 2024-25 tenure.

 The results may be declared on Friday after counting of the ballots, sources said.

The authorities concerned deployed additional police personnel on Supreme Court premises to avoid any untoward incident during the elections.

Police officials said nine platoons of police members are already on the spot and more are ready to be deployed to the court, if needed.

As many as 50 polling booths were set up in the Supreme Court auditorium for voters to cast their ballots.

Candidates from Sammilito Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (White panel)-backed by Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (Blue panel), as well as independent candidates are contesting in the polls.

The candidates of the Awami League-backed white panel are -- Abu Sayeed Sagar for president, Shah Manjurul Haque for secretary, Ramzan Ali Shikder and Dewan Mohammad Abu Obaid Hossain Setu for two posts of vice-presidents, Mohammad Nurul Huda Ansari for treasurer, Humayun Kabir and Humayun Kabir Pallab for two assistant secretary posts.

Soumitra Sardar, M Khalekuzzaman Bhuiyan, Rashedul Haque Khokon, Mahmuda Afroz, Belal Hossain Shahin, Khaled Mosharraf Ripon and Raihan Roni are vying for the posts of seven members.

The candidates from the blue panel are AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon for president, M Ruhul Quddus Kajal for secretary, M Humayun Kabir Manju and Sarkar Tahmina Begum Sandhya for two vice-president posts, M Rezaul Karim for treasurer, Mahfuzur Rahman Milan and Md Abdul Karim for two assistant secretary posts.

Fatima Akhtar, Syed Fazle Elahi Avi, Md Shafiqul Islam Shafiq, Md Russell Ahmed, Md Ashikuzzaman Nazrul, Mohiuddin Hanif and Md Ibrahim Khalil are contesting as members.

Yunus Ali Akand and MK Rahman are also vying for the post of president, Nahid Sultana Juthi and Farhad Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan for the post of secretary and Saiful Islam for the post of treasurer are also contesting in the polls outside the white and blue panel.
