Coxs Bazar, Mar 29: Law enforcers here have failed to prevent  Rohingya terrorist groups from kidnapping people and reportedly demanding ransoms in Teknaf for the last one year. Local terrorist groups are also partners of the Rohingya terrorists in the crime, according to sources.

At least 109 people, including 59 locals, have been kidnapped last year. Of them, 51 of the kidnapped victims have been released on payment of ransom, according to the families of the victims.
Of them, six were abducted on Wednesday afternoon (March 27) from the hilly area near Rohingya Camp-12 at Whykong union of Teknaf.

The kidnappers have demanded Tk 3 lakh ransom from the victims families for their safe return, Whykong Union Parishad Ward-5 Member Shahjalal told our Coxs Bazar Correspondent.

The victims are Shakil Mia,15, son of Ledu Mia of Korachi Para at Whykong, Junaid, 13, son of Belal; Saiful, 14, son of Nurul Amin; Farid, 35, son of Shohor Ali, Sona Mia, 24, son of Nazir Hossain and Gura Puitta, 32, son of Shohor Mulluk.

Muhammad Osman Goni, Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Model Police Station said, "We are informed of the situation. I have sent officers to the spot and to the houses of the victims. Legal actions will be taken after talking to the families of the victims."

Earlier on Tuesday two shepherds were kidnapped from Kombonia hills at Whykong.

The victims have been identified as Oli Ahmed, 32, son of Amir Hossain, a resident of Rozar Ghona area and Noor Mohammad, 17, son of Firuz, a resident of Kombonia area.

Police have rescued 10 people who were abducted from parts of Coxs Bazars Teknaf. The kidnappers have not yet been apprehended, but police are continuing their efforts to capture them.

The victims were rescued around 12:30am on Thursday after a six-hour raid in the hills of Teknafs Jahajpura, according to Muhammed Osman Gani, chief of Teknaf Model Police Station.

"After pinpointing the kidnappers location using technology, a 50-strong police team from Whykong and Baharchhara Police Outposts, joined by RAB members, raided the Jahajpura hills," he said.

During the operation, law enforcers encircled the hills, prompting the kidnappers to flee and leave behind the 10 people they had kidnapped. Police then rescued the victims and pressed on with the search for the kidnappers.

UP member Md Hasan said Oli and Noor were kidnapped after they took their cows to the hills to graze.

However, many are still missing. Abdullah, a madrasa student who was abducted from the East Panchali area of Hnila on March 9, could not be rescued even after 19 days of his abduction.

The police have arrested five members of a gang suspected to be involved in the kidnappings. All of the suspects have been identified as Rohingyas.

Earlier on February 29, two people were kidnapped from the hills of Teknaf. Prior to that, in October a man was reportedly abducted from the same area.

However, a voice recording circulated on social media suggesting that the kidnapped individuals were released after ransoms were paid.

Osman Gani clarified that the police conducted a rescue operation without any knowledge of ransom payments, and that the rescued individuals were unharmed.

He noted that families often do not inform the police about ransom payments. Gani also highlighted the challenge police face when families do not share information or file written complaints, despite repeated requests. The rescued individuals were taken to the Teknaf Upazila Health Complex for first aid.
