Demanding salaries for the month of March, workers of Abanti Colour Tex Ltd blocked Dhaka-Munshiganj regional road in Narayanganj on Sunday.

The employees took to the street at about 10:30am and blocked the road with electric pole, sticks and timbers, causing two-kilometre-long tailback.

The demonstration was continuing till 12:30pm.

At this time, the industrial and Fatullah Model Police Station police members were seen on the road with water cannons to control the situation.

The agitating workers of Abanti Colour Tex Ltd alleged that the factory was closed on April 8 after work. Though the authorities paid Eid bonus, but salary of month of March is still pending.

"The authorities ensured us to pay the due salary through mobile banking. But later they did not pay which fell them into a financial crisis. For this, they staged demonstration blocking the road," the workers said.

At least 7,000 workers are employed at the factory owned by AH Aslam Sunny.
