The people of Pirojpur, and Comilla celebrated their freedom day on the 8th December while Satkhira residents observed the day on December 7, in a befitting manner.
PIROJPUR: The Pirojpur Freedom Day was celebrated in the district on Wednesday befittingly.
Marking the day, the district Hanadar Mukta Dibash Udjapan Committee (HMDUC) organised elaborate programmes that included rally, recitation, drama and cultural function
At first, a colourful procession was brought out this morning from town club premises and ended in front of the martyrs' memorial at Balesswar River Ghat after parading main roads in the town.
People from all walks of life including civil society members, teachers, women, cultural activists, journalists, human rights activists and NGO activists joined the procession.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Khairul Alam Sheikh, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Walid Hossain, General Secretary of district unit of Awami League Advocate MA Halim Hawlader and Convener of HMDUC advocate MA Mannan placed wreaths on the memorial.
Besides, different socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths separately to pay homage to the martyrs of Liberation War.
Later, a discussion meeting was held in this connection where DC Md Khairul Alam Sheikh, SP Md Walid Hossain, Deputy Commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad (MS) Rabbani Firoz, Former Commander of MS Goutam Chowdhury and joint convener of HMDUC journalist Ziaul Ahsan spoke among others.
COMILLA: The Comilla Free Day was observed in a befitting manner Thursday as the district was freed from the clutches of Pakistani occupation forces on this day in 1971.
On that day Comilla was freed from the occupation by our heroic freedom fighters.
To mark the day, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad district and Sadar upazila units, jointly arranged elaborate programmes.
A big procession was brought out from Comilla Town hall premises inaugurated by loca MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar and ended at Comilla Poura Park where sculpture of Bangabandhu erected. Later, local lawmaker, Deputy Commissioner Md Jahangir Alam, district unit Muktijoddha Commander Safiul Ahmed Babul and other organisations placed floral wreaths.
SATKHIRA: The people of Satkhira district observed the 7th December, as 'Satkhira Mukto Dibash' with various programmes.
On the day in 1971, the district was liberated from the clutches of Pakistani occupation forces.
On the occasion, a colourful procession was brought out from the district unit command office led by unit commander Mosharof Hossain Moshu.
The procession after parading different streets ended at the same place. Later a discussion meeting was held on the occasion at the same place where the president of district unit Awami League Mansur Ahmed was present as the chief guest.
