About 1.31 crore consumers of the Rural Electrification Board (REB) and 1.44 lakh consumers of the West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCO) are still without power for hours due to the impact of Cyclone Remal.

Power Division spokesperson Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin said 1,71,73,000 consumers of REB and 1,44,628 consumers of WZPDCO were still suffering from power cuts. With the improvement of the situation, the power transmission and distribution system will gradually be checked and restored, he added.

According to the Power Division, 50 per cent of Khulnas residents, 10 per cent of Bagerhats, and 70 per cent of Satkhiras had their power restored on Tuesday morning. However, on Tuesday morning, Cyclone Remal hit Sunamjang. Now, this district is facing rampant power cuts, and even Dhaka city is experiencing power cuts due to waterlogging and trees uprooted and fallen over the transmission lines. All these are the impacts of Remal, an official said.

"Over 3.5 lakh people were still without power in Shariatpur district, and the REB reported that 432,000 out of 435,000 customers in Khulna under 17 substations were affected," an official said.

Hundreds of thousands of residents in Khulna, Bagerhat, and Satkhira were plunged into darkness due to Cyclone Remal, which damaged the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Boards power lines at 1,121 locations. A total of 207 electric poles fell, affecting over 1.36 million customers across 46 substations for more than 24 hours.

In Khulna, the Rural Electrification Office reported that 432,000 out of 435,000 customers under 17 substations were affected. The damage included 16 transmitters, eight fallen poles, and 100 damaged lines. Md Shahidul Islam, DGM of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board in Bagerhat, stated that 480,000 out of 485,000 customers were without electricity on Monday.

Ziaur Rahman, General Manager of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board in Satkhira, reported that 450,000 consumers under 12 substations were without power, with 85 poles damaged and issues at 621 power line locations.

Meteorologist Amirul Azad, in charge of the Khulna Met Office, noted that Khulna experienced 181mm of rain due to Cyclone Remal. The cyclones intensity lasted until Monday night.

Over 27 million consumers in the coastal region of the country were without electricity for hours due to the impact of Cyclone Remal. Of these, 26,626,550 consumers are covered by 80 units of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board. Additionally, 453,081 consumers of the West Zone Power Distribution Company are without electricity. This information was provided by the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources on Monday evening.

A number of electric poles and trees were uprooted, and houses and crops were damaged in different parts of the district during the storm. According to the Palli Bidyut Samity, at least 20 electric poles in Sakhipur, Bhedarganj, Goshairhat, Damudya, and Jajira upazilas were destroyed as around 600-700 trees fell on the electric poles, disrupting the power supply to the district. Additionally, mobile networks were disrupted due to the power outage.
