The former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed appearance at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is still uncertain. The ACC has summoned Benazir to appear before it on June 6. But Benazirs whereabouts have left everyone rattled.

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday  said former IGP Benazir Ahmed will be brought home back if he is found guilty.
"The trail of accused Benazir will continue on graft charges even if he stays abroad. If he is convicted, he will have to return home. The government will not show any mercy, he told a press conference at AL presidents Dhanmondi political office in the city.

On Saturday Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, at an event of Bangladesh Chhatra League at Dhaka University, said he heard that Benazir left the country but he is not sure about it.

ACC will wait for the return of former IGP Benazir Ahmed until June 6, after that legal action will be taken against him. ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam came up with this information on Saturday.

He said that since Benazir Ahmed was summoned to ACC on June 6, ACC will wait until then. If he does not present himself on time, then legal action will be taken against him. Meanwhile,  the lawyer said the ACC expects Benazir Ahmed to appear before the ACC on June 6.

Earlier, the ACC summoned Benazir Ahmed, his wife Zeeshan Mirza and their two daughters for questioning on charges of acquiring illegal wealth. On Tuesday, the summons was sent from the ACC head office at Segunbagicha in the capital. The letter asked them to appear at the ACC headquarters on June 6.

Their two daughters are Farhin Rista Bint Benazir and Tahsin Raisa Bint Benazir. However, another daughter, Zahra Zerin bint Benazir, was not summoned as she is a minor.

Meanwhile, doubt has arisen whether Benazir Ahmed will come to the commission on that date or not.

Benazir Ahmed and his family withdrew money from the bank accounts before the freeze order. Based on information from ACC, the court ordered the seizure of their accounts on May 23.

However, the amount of money in their accounts is not known. Apart from withdrawing money from the bank accounts, information was also not available whether land, flats, or any other assets were sold or transferred.

Benazir Ahmeds illegal wealth news is coming out one by one. Now it is known that he has bought land next to Inani Beach in Coxs Bazar in the name of his wife and three daughters. He also purchased 1.75 acres of land in Saint Martin Island 10 years ago.

Recently, allegations surfaced against Benazir Ahmed and his family for amassing huge wealth through corruption and irregularities, prompting the Anti-Corruption Commission to open a probe into their wealth acquired from sources beyond known means. The agency has so far found 621 bighas of land in Gopalganj and Madaripur, shares in 19 companies, four apartments in Gulshan, saving certificates of Tk 3 million, 33 bank accounts and three BO (beneficiary owners) accounts. These properties and money have been seized and frozen following the court orders.

Benazir and his wife and three daughters own 72 decimals of land on Inani Beach adjacent to the LGED building, which is next to the Marine Drive in Ukhiya, Coxs Bazar. Local Ward 6 member Shamsul Alam of local Jalia Palang union parishad assisted Benazir in purchasing the land. He said the land remains fallow now.
