The detectives could not yet establish any vital evidence since Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar was killed over a month ago. This is for very first time a Bangladeshi lawmaker has been murdered on foreign soil.

Anwarul Azim Anar was murdered and his body was cut into pieces at a flat of Sanjeeva Garden in Kolkatas New Town on May 22, according to police. Meanwhile, detectives are yet to recover any vital evidence like knife other sharp instrument used for killing him. Even his cellphone was switched off and could not be recover.
According to police sources, the body part was recovered from the side of Krishnamati Bridge of Bagjola Canal in Bhangar area near New Town of Koltaka. Investigators of the West Bengal CID claimed to have recovered pieces of flesh and strands of hair from the septic tank.

Though suspected to be Azims, his family is yet to get the green light to visit Kolkata for DNA tests. Abdur Rauf, a personal assistant of Azim, said, "We were supposed to go to Kolkata on July 3, but we did not get any authorisation. We do not know when the authorisation will come."

The investigation has taken so many twists and turns since then that it has raised some doubts and confusion in the public mind.

Anwarul Azim went to Kolkata by road on May 12 for treatment and stayed at a friends house. He went out of that house speaking of his treatment on May 13 and didn return.

Three accused, who gave confessional statements over the MP Anwarul Azim Anar murder, filed pleas with a Dhaka court on Thursday to withdraw their statements.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mahbubul Haque held a hearing on the pleas.

The suspects are Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary of Jhenaidah Awami League Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu, Shimul Bhuiyan alias Amanullah and Tanvir Bhuiyan.

Of them, Babu gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court under the Penal Code Section 164 on June 14, Shimul, who is accused as the prime killer, on June 5, and Tanvir on June 4.

In the plea, the suspects stated that they are now ill after being tortured during remand. During the hearing on the pleas, the trio was produced before the court from a jail.

Former public prosecutor of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Ehsanul Haque Somazi and some other lawyers took part in the hearing for the suspects. After the hearing, the judge directed the court employees to record the pleas. The court also directed the jail authority to ensure their treatment as per the jail code.

Ehsanul said they were forced to give confessional statements against their will and the statements were not true.

Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman Fakir and Foysal Ali Sahazi have given confessional statements in the court on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Faisal, Mostafiz and Jihad Howlader, another suspect, arranged chloroform, machetes and a chair with the help of Siam. After killing the MP and cutting his body into pieces, only Faisal and Mostafiz were in the flat while the rest left the place gradually.

Upon the directive of Shahin, they cleaned parts of the flat with bleaching powder to remove blood and hair of the deceased. After that, they returned home and boarded at a house of Shahin.

In addition to arranging for their visa, passports and travel arrangements,  Aktaruzzaman, one of the masterminds behind the murder, also provided the two with chloroform and other weapons used for the murder through his personal assistant Siam.

The two also cleaned the flat after murdering the MP, said Harun Or Rashid, Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) of DMP.

The DB arrested the duo from a Hindu temple at Fatikchhari in Chattogram on  June 26. They were there in the guise of Hindus. Police officer Harun said they are trying to arrest the rest of the suspects who are at large.

Drives are underway to arrest more suspects whose names are emerging from the investigation, he added.

On May 12, Momtarin Ferdous Dorin, daughter of MP Azim, filed the case against unknown people with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital. In the case, she brought an allegation of abduction of his father for murder.
