A chase and counter-chase took place between
BRAC University students and police as the students took position in the capital's Merul Badda area after 10:30am on Thursday.
At least 10 students were injured after police lobbed teargas shells and fired rubber bullets to disperse them from the road. Police also hurled sound grenades.
The protesting students are now inside the campus.
It was learnt that hundreds of students started gathering in front of the university this morning as part of countrywide 'complete shutdown' protesting police, BGB, RAB and SWAT attacks on quota protesters and, later, started demonstration blocking a road there.

Following the students' protest, traffic movement in Merul Badda area came to a standstill.
Then the law enforcers chased the students to disperse them. In retaliation, the protesting students threw brickbats to police. At one stage, police hurled sound grenades, fired rubber bullets and lobbed teargas shells.
The students claimed that the law enforcers attacked them without any provocation. They even lobbed teargas shells inside the campus. Several students were injured in the police attack.
Earlier on Wednesday, leaders of the Students Movement Against Discrimination announced a nationwide 'complete shutdown' for Thursday (July 18) in protest against police, BGB, RAB and SWAT attacks on quota protesters.
