The mobile internet in Bangladesh was restored on Sunday afternoon, 10 days after it was restricted across the country.

The decision regarding the access to social media is yet to be taken.  Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has sent letters to authorities of social media platforms, including Facebook, Tiktok and YouTube.

Their representatives have to come to Dhaka by July 31 to give explanations. After meeting with them, government will make decision on the issue.
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, "We have enquired why no action has been taken against violent content. Representatives from Facebook, TikTok, and other social media platforms have been summoned to the BTRC on July 31. They must appear in person and provide an explanation. Until a satisfactory explanation is provided, the government remains firm in its decision to keep these social media platforms blocked".

He told this after a meeting with mobile operators at BTRC Bhaban in Dhaka on Sunday.

He also announced that 5GB of internet would be provided for free to all users for three days after the connection is restored.

Meanwhile, internet connectivity across the country was disrupted for five consecutive days, from the night of July 17 to late July 23.

The broadband internet services have been partially restored since July 23.
