A juvenile court in Dhaka on Sunday cancelled the seven-day remand order against Hasnatul Islam Faiyaz, 17, an eleventh grade student of Dhaka College, in a case filed with Jatrabari police station over the killing of a police constable during the Quota Reform Movement on July 19.

Dhaka Juvenile Court-3 Judge Roksana Begum Happy passed the order after Faiyaz's lawyer submitted an application challenging the legality of the lower court order.

After cancellation of his remand, Faiyaz was sent to Gazipur's Tongi Child Correctional Centre.

Earlier on Saturday (July 27), a Dhaka court placed Faiyaz on a seven-day remand. On that day, the accused claimed to be a minor, but the court granted the remand as he failed to provide proof of his age.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka CMM Court on Sunday (July 28) deferred Faiyaz's remand after he submitted proof of his age (SSC and birth certificate) to support his claim of being a minor.

The court then referred the case to the relevant juvenile court for a hearing and order to determine his age.

Faiyaz’s uncle Md Shamim said that Faiyaz was picked up from his house on Wednesday night but produced before the court on Saturday.
