Despite the loss, Bangladesh advanced to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of India vs. Maldives match.
Nepal emerged as the Group A champions with a perfect record, earning six points from their two matches. Bangladesh, having won their earlier match against Sri Lanka, finished with three points and needed only a draw to top the group. However, they were undone by two quick goals in first half.
The match took a turn in the 16th minute when Bangladeshi goalkeeper Mehdi Hasan Srabon, who was positioned near midfield during a corner kick, failed to stop a Nepalese counterattack. This allowed Nepal's Samir Tamang to score easily, putting the hosts ahead 1-0. Just two minutes later, Niranjan Dhami doubled Nepal's lead with a well-placed shot that left Srabon with no chance.
In response, Bangladesh coach Maruful Haque made strategic changes to lineup, which yielded some results. Mirajul managed to reduce the deficit with a penalty goal in 43rd minute, bringing the score to 2-1. However, despite their efforts, Bangladesh could not find an equalizer in the second half, and the match ended in Nepal's favor.
Bangladesh will now focus on their semifinal clash on August 26, while Nepal will prepare to continue their strong run in the tournament.
