The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an investigation into corruption against four former lawmakers, including former fisheries and livestock minister Abdur Rahman.

They are accused of money laundering, irregularities in projects, and amassing substantial illegal assets both domestically and abroad.

The three other former lawmakers are Iqbalur Rahim (Dinajpur-4), Saifuzzaman Shikhor (Magura-1), and Solaiman Haque Joarder (Chuadanga-1).

The decision was taken in a meeting of the ACC at its office on Wednesday.

According to the anti-graft watchdog, there are extensive corruption allegations against Md Abdur Rahman. The accusations include abuse of power and possession of properties by illegal activities.

He is accused of constructing buildings in Madhupur, Faridpur, purchased land in various locations, including Purbachal, and bought savings certificates at multiple banks in his name.

Additionally, his wife, Mirza Nahida Hossain, is alleged to own several properties in Dhaka, and the couple is suspected of purchasing multiple houses abroad.

The investigation into Iqbalur Rahim focuses on allegations of acquiring a house in Uttara, Dhaka, a flat in Dhanmondi, and several plots of land in Dinajpur.

Saifuzzaman Shikhor is being investigated for allegedly using his position to acquire a large auto-bricks business, a fish farm in Magura, and several trucks. He is also accused of owning a multi-storied market in Magura and other significant assets.

Solaiman Haque Joarder is facing allegations of corruption and abuse of power, including the construction of a luxurious three-story house in Chuadanga Sadar and the acquisition of numerous vehicles.
