Customs Intelligence officials in a drive arrested two women along with 24 gold bars, weighing 2.784 grams, from Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.
The arrestees were Sania Akter and Salma Begum.
According to Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Director of Customs Intelligence, the women were on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that arrived from Dubai via Chattogram. Their suspicious behavior prompted customs officials to search their vanity bags, leading to the discovery of the gold bars as they passed through the green channel.
The seized gold bars are valued at Tk 2.64 crore. The women have been handed over to the Airport Police Station for further investigation.
