Shakib to play SA Test unless injured

Bangladesh's ace all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, is set to feature in the upcoming home Test series against South Africa, barring any injury or selection issues, according to a statement from a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official.

Shakib, who is also a member of parliament for Awami League, has been under scrutiny after the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government following a mass uprising. He has been charged in a murder case but has not returned to the country since the regime change. Despite these circumstances, Shakib participated in two overseas Test series against Pakistan and India, playing while based abroad.
However, with Bangladesh's two-match Test series against South Africa scheduled at home, Shakib will need to return to the country if he wishes to participate.

Shahriar Nafees, who is in charge of BCB's cricket operations, clarified the board’s stance on the matter. "The honourable chief adviser, law adviser, and sports adviser have been clear regarding Shakib Al Hasan. The interim government has assured that no individual will face unfair harassment in the ongoing cases," Nafees said on Monday.

Nafees further added, "Unless there is an injury or selection-related issue, there is no reason for Shakib to miss the home series against South Africa."

Shakib's recent form, however, has raised concerns. He sustained a finger injury during Bangladesh's Test series in India, which left his participation in the second Test in Kanpur uncertain. In the first Test, held in Chennai, Shakib struggled with both bat and ball, contributing to Bangladesh's 280-run defeat.

The second and final Test against India is set to begin on September 27, with eyes on Shakib’s recovery and performance.
