BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the interim government to expedite the withdrawal of all charges against BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, enabling his immediate return to the country.

Speaking at a memorial event marking the eighth death anniversary of BNP leader Brigadier General ASM Hannan Shah in Gazipur, Fakhrul on Friday emphasized the need for prompt elections and reforms.

Fakhrul warned of potential attempts by the Awami League to disrupt the country during Durga Puja, urging vigilance during the religious festival. "The sooner an election can be held, the better it will be for the nation. We must swiftly implement reforms to return power to the people," Fakhrul stated.
He demanded that all cases against BNP leaders and activists be dropped, asserting that fair elections are impossible without addressing these legal hurdles. Fakhrul claimed that over the past 17 years, many BNP leaders have been falsely accused or have gone missing, making it crucial to create a fair political environment.

Fakhrul also accused the Awami League of corruption, alleging that their leaders have smuggled vast sums of money, and called for reforms to facilitate free and fair elections. He reiterated the BNP's commitment to establishing a democratic, welfare-based state free of discrimination.

The BNP leader paid tribute to Hannan Shah, describing him as a steadfast democrat, and encouraged local voters to support Shah Riazul Hannan, son of the late leader, in the upcoming elections.
