Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Law of the interim government, and Md. Nahid Islam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, held a meeting with Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court on Tuesday afternoon.
Though no official statement was made regarding the agenda of the meeting, sources within the Supreme Court suggest the ongoing political crisis, including the possible resignation of President Md. Shahabuddin Chuppu, may have been discussed in the half-hour meeting.
Several students reportedly accompanied the advisers to the court, though they did not participate in the meeting.
Speculation has arisen that Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed could be a candidate for the presidency if Shahabuddin steps down. The political uncertainty follows widespread calls for the president's resignation, particularly after his controversial comments about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier in the day, at a rally held at Central Shaheed Minar, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement demanded the president's resignation by Thursday. Hasnat Abdullah, one of the movement's coordinators, along with Abdul Hannan Masud, reiterated this demand during the rally.
Protests have escalated, with demonstrators gathering outside Bangabhaban throughout Tuesday, calling for Shahabuddins removal from office. The presidents remarks have ignited a wave of dissent, with various activist groups and students uniting in protest.
