Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has expressed uncertainty regarding his participation in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, scheduled to take place in the UAE starting November 6.
Shakib, who previously announced his retirement from Tests and T20Is during the Kanpur Test against India, had hoped to play his final Test at home against South Africa. However, he did not return for the series due to security concerns. His involvement in the India Test series continued despite being accused in a murder case linked to political unrest, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) allowed him to play until proven guilty.
Although the BCB initially assured Shakib that he wouldn't face issues if he returned for the South Africa Tests, their stance changed due to safety concerns, particularly following the relocation of the ICC Women's World Cup from Bangladesh to the UAE.
Shakib had been targeting the Champions Trophy next year to conclude his international career, leading to expectations that he would participate in the ODI series against Afghanistan, as well as the subsequent series against the West Indies for preparation.
Despite his readiness to play if selected, Shakib stated, "How can I tell (whether I will be playing the ODIs against Afghanistan)? BCB should tell about it."
Sources indicate that the selection panel is unsure about including him, as they await guidance from the BCB's higher authorities, who will ultimately make the final decision.
