Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed plans to meet with Najmul Hossain Shanto to discuss the young cricketer's recent decision to step down as captain following the home series against South Africa.
Faruque will fly to Chattogram, where Bangladesh is currently playing its second Test against South Africa, to speak directly with Shanto and the team.
"I need to sit with him to understand why he made this decision. Im heading to Chattogram tonight to meet with the team, the coach, and others, and hopefully, well gain some clarity," Faruque told reporters. "Its essential to hear from him directly before making any assumptions based on media reports."
Although Shanto's leadership has generally been praised, his recent struggles with the bat have led to criticism on social media. Faruque noted that players today must be mindful of the potential impact of online backlash, suggesting that they approach cricket operations or board officials if they are affected by it. "Players need to stay aware of social media's impact. They should seek help from cricket operations, the CEO, or the president if needed," he advised.
Faruque also emphasized that players should discuss potential decisions with the board before finalizing them, indicating that open communication is vital to addressing any personal or performance-related issues.
"If a player feels they cannot continue, thats a personal matter. However, if theres an underlying issue, its crucial to bring it to the board for discussion," he added.
