Protests by students of Government Titumir College in Mohakhali turned violent on Monday as they blocked rail tracks, demanding the upgrade of their institution to university status.
The blockade caused disruptions and led to attacks on multiple trains, injuring several people, including children.
Joynul Abedin, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station, reported that four Dhaka-bound trains, along with another train preparing to depart from the city, were halted due to the students' barricades set up early in the morning.
Around 11:30 a.m., the Kamalapur-bound Parabat Express was attacked near Mohakhali, leaving passengers, including children, with injuries. The exact number of injured individuals has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
In addition to the Parabat Express, the students also attacked the Dhaka-bound Upakul Express from Noakhali, damaging several window panes of the train, Abedin added.
The blockade and attacks created significant travel disruptions, leaving trains stranded and passengers in distress as tensions in the area escalated.
