Bangladesh found themselves in a precarious position at the close of Day 3 of the first Test against the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua.
Trailing by 181 runs, the visitors were 269-9, with their hopes resting on the last-wicket pair of Taskin Ahmed (11) and Shoriful Islam (5).
Earlier, the West Indies declared their first innings at an imposing 450-9, courtesy of Justin Greaves maiden century.
Bangladesh resumed the day at 40-2, with overnight batters Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Mominul Haque showing resilience in the opening hour. However, Kemar Roach broke through, dismissing Shahadat for 18 after he added just eight runs to his overnight score.
Mominul anchored the innings with a composed 50, his 21st Test half-century, but fell shortly after reaching the milestone. His partnership of 62 runs with Liton Das for the fourth wicket had given Bangladesh some hope, but Liton departed soon after for 40, leaving the team under pressure.
Jaker Ali Anik played a defiant innings, scoring a team-best 53, his second consecutive half-century in Tests. He shared a crucial 68-run stand with Taijul Islam (25) to save Bangladesh from a potential follow-on.
However, Alzarri Joseph (3-69) and Justin Greaves (2-34) continued to chip away at the lower order. A sharp catch by Jayden Seals at mid-wicket ended Jaker's valiant knock, while Greaves also accounted for Hasan Mahmud (8).
The West Indies bowlers maintained their dominance throughout the day. Alzarri Josephs pace and accuracy, combined with the efforts of Jayden Seals (2-42) and Shamar Joseph, kept Bangladeshs batting under constant pressure.
With Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam still at the crease, Bangladesh will look to minimize the first-innings deficit on Day 4. The West Indies, however, remain in control, poised to exploit their substantial lead and press for victory.
