Kabi Nazrul Government College and Shaheed Suhrawardy College have decided not to attend the meeting called by coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to resolve the ongoing clashes among students of three major colleges in the capital.
The meeting was scheduled for 10 PM tonight.
The decision was confirmed by the principals of both colleges at 8:40 PM on Monday.
Hafizur Rahman, Principal of Kabi Nazrul Government College, said, "We received a phone call inviting us to the meeting, but we are not attending. This is not the time for dialogue. Our focus is on providing medical care to injured students. Many of them are hospitalized at Dhaka Medical College, and we have reports of injuries to at least 40 students. The college will bear their medical expenses."
Kakoli Mukhopadhyay, Principal of Shaheed Suhrawardy College, echoed the sentiment, "Since Kabi Nazrul College is not attending, we will not participate either. We cannot negotiate with Mahbubur Rahman Molla College at this time. Attending a dialogue now would be a betrayal of our students who have shed blood in these clashes. We thank the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinators for their initiative, but we insist that the Ministry of Education investigate the situation thoroughly before any discussions take place. A government-mediated meeting with all parties involved would be the right platform for resolution."
Both principals emphasized their commitment to supporting their injured students and called for an impartial investigation by the Ministry of Education to address the root causes of the conflict.
