Jewellers in Bangladesh have announced another increase in gold prices, setting the new rate at Tk 140,586 per bhori (11.664 grams), which will take effect from Thursday.

The adjustment comes after the previous price of Tk 138,498. The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) cited the rising cost of pure gold in the local market as the main reason behind this decision.
Gold prices in Bangladesh have been on an upward trajectory for over a year, reflecting international market trends and challenges in the domestic supply chain. Last year, the price of gold crossed Tk 100,000 per bhori for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the market.

Although Bangladesh imports minimal quantities of gold officially, the local pricing remains closely tied to global fluctuations. The country's annual gold demand, estimated at 20 to 40 tonnes, is largely met through unofficial channels, which account for about 80 percent of the supply.

The consistent price hikes have raised concerns among consumers and industry stakeholders, with many pointing to the need for better regulation of the gold market in the country.
