A teenager domestic worker died after falling from the 13th floor of a multi-storey building in Purana Paltan area of the capital on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Lima, 16, was hailed from Mymensingh district and had been employed for over a year at the residence of Dr. Ananya, located in Eastern Rainbow Tower in Purana Paltan.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost in charge inspector Faruk Mia confirmed the death, adding that Dr. Ananya and a young man brought Lima to the hospital in critical condition around noon. After diagnosing, the attending doctors declared her dead shortly after.
The circumstances leading to Lima's fall remain unclear. Her legs were reportedly broken and police are investigating the incident, he said.
Khairul Kabir, the owner of an apartment on the 8th floor of the building, explained that he lived with his wife and son on the same floor, while Dr. Ananya's residence was on the 13th floor. Lima worked across both floors.
"I saw her serving breakfast around 10 AM in the morning. Later, another domestic worker informed us that Lima was missing," said Khairul Kabir.
Paltan Police Station sub-inspector Nazmul Hasan stated that Lima's body had been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. "We are awaiting the autopsy report to understand the circumstances of her death," he added.
