The body of a 7-month-old infant, who went missing from her home in Kurigram's Nageshwari upazila, was recovered 24 hours later from a septic tank behind the house.

Police have detained two individuals for questioning in connection with the incident.

The incident took place at Chakirkuti Byapari Teri village under Nowashi union of the upazila on Monday afternoon.

According to the family, Adiba was asleep in her room while her mother, Ferdousi Akhter Khushi, took her elder daughter to bathe at a nearby tubewell. Adiba's cries prompted her mother to rush back to the house, only to find the baby missing from her bed. Despite extensive searches by family members, neighbors and police personnel, the child could not be found that day.

On Tuesday, police returned to the scene with local assistance and conducted another search. During this effort, they discovered Adiba's body in the septic tank behind the house, more than 24 hours after she disappeared.

Adiba's grieving parents, Aminul Islam and Ferdousi Akhter Khushi, remain inconsolable. Overcome with emotion, they demand that those responsible be held accountable.

Nageshwari Police Station officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman confirmed the discovery of the body and stated that the investigation is ongoing. "We have detained the child’s grandfather, Mohammad Ali, and grandmother, Amena Begum, for questioning," he said.
