An elderly man was killed in a road accident when a speeding bus ran over his vehicle in Satkhira Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The accident took place around 11:30 AM in Trishmail area on the Satkhira-Khulna Highway of the upazila.
Amanullah, 60, son of Shariatullah, was a resident of Talatala village in Labsa union under the upazila.
Eyewitnesses reported that Amanullah was traveling toward Satkhira when an Imad Paribahan bus, coming from the opposite direction at high speed, collided with his van. The impact left the van completely mangled and Amanullah died on the spot.
Satkhira Fire Service inspector Nurul Islam confirmed the recovery of Amanullah's body from the accident site. However, the bus managed to flee before it could be detained.
Local authorities are investigating the incident and working to track down the vehicle involved. Necessary legal steps are being taken to address the accident and hold the responsible party accountable, added the fire service official.
