An NGO worker committed suicide at Boalkhali upazila in Chattogram district on Saturday allegedly due to persistent workplace pressure.
The deceased, Shukla Dey Tikli, 38, was employed as a field officer at Rupsa Comprehensive Rural Development Cooperative Society Limited, a financial institution. She was a resident of Kharnadwip Pal Para in Boalkhali's Sri Pur-Kharnadwip union and wife of Sidul Pal. She is survived by her husband, a son, and a daughter.
Police recovered her body from her residence late on Saturday night.
According to family members, Shukla had been under immense stress for the past two months due to repeated demands from her superiors to meet unattainable targets. Failing to meet these targets reportedly resulted in salary deductions and frequent reprimands.
Sidul Pal stated, "Shukla didn't go to work on Saturday. She slept until 11 a.m. and later in the afternoon, she took her own life by hanging herself in the kitchen."
Boalkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Sarwar confirmed the matter, adding that they have recovered the body and sent it to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy on Sunday morning.
A case has been filed based on the family's complaint. “We are treating this matter with utmost seriousness and conducting a thorough investigation," he said.
