A driver was killed and four other passengers were injured in a collision involving a pickup van and a truck in Narail Sadar upazila on Monday.
The accident occurred early Monday morning on the Dhaka-Narail highway near Hawaikhali bridge in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as a resident of Keshabpur in Jashore although further details about his identity are yet to be confirmed.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the accident took place due to dense fog around dawn when a truck (Jashore T 11-4315) collided head-on with a speeding pickup van (Dhaka Metro N-23-2619) from the opposite direction. Both vehicles suffered severe front-end damage, leaving the drivers and four passengers critically injured.
With the help of local residents, the fire service quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured to Narail Sadar Hospital. But the driver of the pickup truck was declared dead upon arrival by the attending doctors.
Among the four critically injured, one person was referred to a hospital in Dhaka, and another was transferred to a hospital in Khulna. The other two were admitted for further treatment.
