A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for attempting to rape and then killing a teenager in Narail after failing in his attempt in 2010.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of Narail Md. Shahjahan Ali delivered the verdict on Wednesday during a session held at noon.
The convicted individual, Babul Bala, is a resident of Khalishakhali village in the district's sadar upazila. In addition to life imprisonment, Babul Bala was fined 10,000 Taka. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
According to the case file, Babul attempted to rape his neighbor in February 2010. When his attempt failed, he killed her and later disposed of her body by throwing it into a river.
The girl's grandfather filed a murder case with Narail Sadar Police Station, naming Babul and several unknown individuals as suspects.
During the long judicial proceedings, 16 witnesses provided testimony. Based on their statements and the evidence presented, the court found Babul Bala guilty and delivered the verdict.
