A farmer was allegedly beaten to death after protesting against a group of youths consuming drugs near his home at Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night around 9 PM at Putia village under the upazila.
The deceased, Azim Uddin Sarkar, 55,was son of late Moslem Uddin Sarkar from the same village.
Police have recovered his body and sent it to Sirajganj Hospital morgue for autopsy.
According to locals, the victim encountered a group of young men consuming cannabis near a mustard field while returning home. He confronted them and accused them of being thieves, prompting the group to become enraged. They allegedly attacked him, beating him severely before fleeing the scene. His family members rushed him to a local rural doctor who declared him dead upon arrival.
Angered by the incident, local villagers detained a motorcycle believed to belong to the attackers and informed the police. Law enforcement officers later seized the motorcycle and recovered Azim Uddin's body.
Shahjadpur Police Station officer-in-charge Aslam Ali, stated, "We have not found any visible injury marks on the victim's body. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy. Legal action will be taken based on the report."
As of Wednesday, no case had been filed regarding the incident.
